This is a #storygram (mini-story) from my Instagram, which you can get to via the social media links at the top of this site. I do my best to make them daily for you to enjoy! YES, many of them will hopefully be expounded upon in novels or other future writing endeavors of mine. Thank you very much for reading and sharing them! And don’t forget to check out my film Portfolio too!

The Story:

The Castle on the Hill. They say it has the world’s most skilled archers keeping a constant watch. If so, they would have spotted us by now. But here we are, about to lay siege to the most coveted castle in the world, and no arrow has flown.

Everyone failed because they brought an army, but I have brought two of my best men. I have a much more elaborate plan for capturing the castle, rather than attempting a frontal assault on her gates.

“We’ll circle around to her eastern side, where the caverns begin and make our way up through,” I instruct my men.

Their caverns are a secret that I learned from a defector whom I was fortunate enough to capture. My men and I rise up and start moving, with me in the middle for protection.

I lose my thoughts for a moment in a vision of being the king that took the Castle on the Hill. I would be so feared that no one would ever challenge me again.

My dreams are broken by a whizzing sound, followed by a thud.

“My Lord, I…”

Hamik, my most loyal warrior, is lying on the ground with a large, metal arrow through his heart. I hear another whizzing sound, and without looking I know it’s Klayne, my bravest warrior.

“Sire, please… Run,” says Klayne with his final breath.

I stand there, waiting for the arrow that would claim my rapidly beating heart. But it never comes. A voice emerges from the woods beside me.

“King Jaxly, we’ve been expecting you! Please, proceed to our castle!”
“Did you intentionally send that defector?” I reply.
“Yes, and we are anxious to show you our wonderful caverns! Come!”

I begin walking toward the Castle on the Hill. I don’t know what lies in store for captives of this place, but I am confident that I am more clever than anyone who has walked through their gates.

I guessed that they would not kill me, but I know they don’t understand me. They don’t know who they are up against. And I know that they don’t know I planned to be caught.

The battle has just begun.
