This is a #storygram (mini-stories) from my Instagram, which you can get to via the social media links at the top of this site. I do my best to make them a daily thing for you to enjoy and share with your friends! I really love making them, as they allow me to simultaneously scratch my photography and writing itches while I’m busy with filmmaking. Thank you very much for reading and sharing them! Don’t forget to check out my film Portfolio too!

The Story:

There wasn’t much thumbnail left to bite. It was the nervousness that insisted on his gnawing. He didn’t know if it was just something he did or if he had maybe inherited it.

His habit of nail biting was just one of a thousand questions that were about to explode from his mind. But he wouldn’t ask them.

There is only one question you ask your famous mother who abandoned you: Why? All other questions are just a distraction.

She was being interviewed on CNN when she revealed the truth. They called it her “mistake.” To him, her little “mistake” cost his childhood, his education, his ability to love.

Camera crews would arrive shortly, and his life would be changed forever. He didn’t believe she wanted to be a family, but he did need to know why.

In her interview she had claimed that she was protecting him–that now the war was over, and she could be with him again. She had gained the trust of the whole world as their new leader, but he knew she was lying. The lines in her face that formed when she lied were something he knew they shared genetically.

A black car rolled to a stop in front of him. She let herself out of the back and stood there with her hands in her coat pockets. He let the unreal nature of the moment float him to his feet.

“Where’re the cameras, Mother?”
“Oh, they have to listen to me now… As does everyone.”

The pride of her triumph pushed out a smirk.

“So, I’m your mother. And apparently I gave birth to a genius who ended up on the wrong side.”
“Remorse eating you alive, is it?”
“Not quite,” she said through a smile.
“I know you have a lot of questions for me, but I don’t think it’s lost on you that I’m not here for family.”

The pain of her words spread to his face before he could stop it.

“Oh, please, you’re 23. Get over it. We have more important things to discuss.”
“I’m 24. Like what?”

She looked at him with curiosity and smiled again.

“The man who won’t die.”

The legendary man who won’t die. His hero. His mentor.

“I’m not telling you where he is.”

She laughed too hard for his liking.

“I know exactly where he is. I wouldn’t lose my own husband.”
