For the “I Am a Child of God Worship Night” at The Experience Community, I wanted to make a film about obedience. Obedience is something we all have to learn as children, and it’s something we all rebel against in one form or another, at least at some point in our lives. As an added bonus, baptism is a huge part of our worship nights, so this film would be doubly important.
I was there on the Sunday that my friend David Bishop decided to be baptized. I remember running up to intercept him after he came up from the water. Hayley Bishop, David’s wife, was crying with joy over his decision, and when David told me his story, I knew that I had to get him on film soon.
The rope and water illustration was something that had been brewing in my mind for awhile but needed a story that it fit, and David gave it that story. I asked my friend and Experience attendee Tyson Pate to wade through a pond teeming with snapping turtles and nibbling fish for several minutes while I got all of the shots that I needed, and he nonchalantly obliged, as always.
Overall, I believe the film turned out well, and David’s story resulted in many people considering baptism who might otherwise not have.
