His father always gave him the same answer about the pipes, but it always made his curiosity stronger than ever. As they passed the pipe, a light suddenly poured out of it. “Dad, look! Look!”
Nothing was going through his mind. The fear was too big for there to be any thoughts. He could only focus on the panic fueled action of running from what was sure to be the beating of a lifetime, far worse than the bruises and black eye a month ago.
The colonies have an agreement to provide rest, food, and shelter to the engineers, especially because of the danger their work can have. Groups of outcasts roam the continent and often attempt to hijack the trains to steal supplies. I am one such outcast.
